myskiffmed.com is an online tool that goes a step beyond simply displaying information by helping you manage your health care easily and securely. Click here for a printable brochure about the portal or read on for more information.

What is an EMR?

EMR stands for Electronic Medical Record. It is a computerized repository of all your health data.

Where does my health information in the portal come from?

All of the information in the portal comes from your Skiff Medical Center EMR. This ensures that you have access to the most accurate, up-to-date information possible.

How do I log into the portal?

To log into the portal, go to myskiffmed.com. Then, simply enter your user name and password! Scroll down to the "To enroll" header to learn more.

Can my family access my portal?

Yes, you can give family members, such as parents or health-care proxies, access to your portal. For more information, refer to the section titled “Proxy consent.”

Is my information safe?

Yes. Portal passwords are encrypted and URLs are rewritten so that they cannot be copied and pasted. You and authorized family members are the only ones who can access your portal. Also, a time-out feature protects your information if you leave the portal page open.

What if I ever have technical problems with the portal?

There is a Contact Us section on the home page of the portal that allows you to submit any questions you may have.

Will I have information to see if I’ve never been a patient?

No, only patients who have had visits at Skiff Medical Center’s data will be available.

Can I see my non-Skiff doctor’s visit information?

No. Your visits to Newton Clinic, NewCare and other providers who are not health-care professionals of Skiff Medical Center do not display on myskiffmed.com.

To enroll:

1. Skiff Admissions will collect your e-mail upon registration to the hospital and enter it into the patient portal system.
2. The patient portal system will send you an e-mail with a one-time user name and password.
3. Access your e-mail for your one-time user name, password, and link to the portal.
4. Enter your one-time user name, password and set your security question, then click Log On.
5. You will then be prompted by the Patient portal to log on with a custom user name and password. Both the user name and password are determined by you.

Proxy consent

A proxy is a person authorized to act on a patient’s behalf

  • A spouse, adult child, parent/legal guardian or a caregiver may be granted full access to medical records with proxy access.
  • The proxy must be 18 years or older to request access to another’s chart.
  • Authorization for proxy access to an adult patient’s portal is valid until revoked by the patient.
  • Authorization for proxy access to a child’s account is valid until the child turns 13 years of age. This is to comply with Iowa law.

If you are the patient and would like to give proxy access to another person, you must visit the Heath Information Management (HIM) office at Skiff. Bring your photo ID. You will need your proxy’s user’s name, physical address, and e-mail address in order for them to use the portal and access your records.

To obtain proxy access for a child (ages 0-12) or a dependent adult, you must visit the HIM office at Skiff. Bring your photo ID. Additional paperwork may be needed to authenticate your relationship and verify legal guardianship or power of attorney for health care.
