Nurse practitioner joins Newton Clinic

September 20, 2018

Newton Clinic has added to its roster of nearly 20 health-care providers with the arrival of nurse practitioner Kelsey Tish.

Tish graduated from Newton High School in 2009, and then attended the University of Northern Iowa and Allen College in Waterloo. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Allen College in 2014, and then received her Master of Science in Nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., this past May.

Most of Tish’s time as a nurse was spent as an ICU nurse at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. This included time spent in the oncology, surgical, trauma and OBGYN intensive care specialties. As part of her nurse practitioner training, she worked in a variety of clinical settings, including family practice, urgent care, OBGYN and pediatrics.

Tish said the opportunity at Newton Clinic was a perfect fit. “I am a Newton native,” she said. “I’m excited to be back home and join the professional team at Newton Clinic. I am most interested in helping to give back to the community that provided so much growing up.”

Newton has a strong connection for several members of Tish’s family, too. “My husband Brandon is an optometrist at The Eye Care Center of Newton. My parents, Chris and Rita Millet, used to work for Maytag and the Newton Community Schools.  My brother, Jeff Millet, is a dentist at Associated Dentists in town.”

In her role at Newton Clinic, Tish will deliver family-focused care that offers a wide range of healthcare services across the entire lifespan. “I will provide treatment affecting any member of the family, from infants to grandparents,” she said, adding that her special interests include women’s health, pediatrics, acute illnesses and injuries.

“We were excited to learn that Kelsey and Brandon were returning to Newton,” said Mark Thayer, Newton Clinic administrator. “Upon meeting Kelsey, we knew that she was going to be a great health-care provider. Kelsey is kind, compassionate and highly trained. I look forward to watching her practice develop and grow.”

Tish will be at the clinic Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  She will also see patients one or two Saturdays a month from 9 a.m.-noon. When she’s not working, Tish plans to spend time with her husband, their dog Tuxedo, family and friends. “We enjoy being outside, especially spending time at the numerous lakes Iowa has to offer,” Tish said. “We are also big Hawkeye football fans – go, Hawks!”
