This class is led by Christine Hinshaw, RN, IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). The purpose of this course is to provide parents with information regarding the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby and solutions for common problems. In addition, participants will receive resources for assistance in the early breastfeeding relationship. Fathers or support people are encouraged to attend.

Course topics include:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby
  • Proper “latch-on” procedures
  • Importance of partner/family support
  • Milk supply/assessing adequacy
  • Common problems and their solutions
  • Breastfeeding and working moms (pumping and storing breast milk, child care issues, introducing a bottle)
  • Weaning issues

Classes for new and expectant parents are free of charge. All classes are held in the Skiff Medical Center Inservice Room beginning at 6 p.m. on the dates listed, unless otherwise noted.
