Left Shadow Right Shadow

The Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary is an organization of dedicated women and men who volunteer their time and energy to support the mission of Skiff Medical Center. Founded in 1951, the Auxiliary serves the hospital in many important ways.  Click here for a printable membership form.

The Auxiliary's scholarship program is perhaps best-known to the public. Since 1957, the auxiliary has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to area students who are studying to become medical professionals. The money raised annually for the auxiliary scholarship program is given back to the community from which it came.

The Skiff Auxiliary also raises funds each year to support a specific project at Skiff. Examples of items the Auxiliary has made possible include:

  • Lifeline emergency response units
  • Maxi Lite lift
  • Sara Stedy lift
  • Pharmacy bedside scanner
  • Blanket warmers
  • Audiology hardware and software
  • TVs for inpatient rooms
  • Start-up funding for the kidney dialysis program
  • Laparoscopic surgical equipment
  • Infant hearing screening equipment
  • Cardiac rehabilitation equipment
  • Labor/delivery/postpartum equipment
  • Newborn and infant hearing screening equipment
  • ER trauma cart
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy machine

How you can get involved

Whether it's offering a friendly smile to patients, planning a fundraising event or making a contribution to help send a student to college, there are many ways you can make a real difference with Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary. Read below to learn about the various roles available within the Auxiliary, or click here for more information on additional volunteering opportunities.

Helping patients – Making a real impact in someone's life feels great, and there's no better way than by volunteering your time with our Patient Services Cart. Each weekday afternoon, a volunteer visits patients and their families, helping them feel more comfortable and at home. New incoming patients receive a complimentary flower from our volunteers, and they deliver gifts that are ordered online through the gift shop. They also deliver mail to patients and lend them books or magazines, helping them stay in touch. To help, please call (641) 791-4366 and leave us a message.

Tax-deductible gifts or memorial funds – All funds given to the Auxiliary are used for the purchase of necessary hospital items and are tax-deductible. Receipts are provided and an acknowledgement is sent to each honoree or family. To help, mail your gift to Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary, 204 N. 4th Ave. E., Newton, IA 50208

Gift shop – Another great way to help is through our gift shop, which helps fund many Auxiliary projects. Volunteers in our gift shop run the cash registers, help keep the shop in order and assist the public in their gift choices. Many of those gift choices are available online for those who want to send a special gift but can't make it in person.

Ambassadors – Auxiliary ambassadors provide a friendly face to Skiff Medical Center, and assist by greeting visitors and helping directing them to where they need to go. To help, please call (641) 787-3095 and leave a message.

Fundraising projects – Helping plan, organize and implement our fundraisers can make a huge impact in the Auxiliary's success in helping the community. The funds raised help purchase necessary hospital equipment and provide scholarships to area youth. To help, call (641) 791-4366 and leave a message.
