Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)

Our goal is to be the best PM&R practice in the nation for a community our size.

Who is Skiff Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation? Click here to meet our staff.

Our areas of expertise include:

Orthopedics
Our therapists can help you overcome some of the obstacles which cause pain and restrict movement through the use of therapeutic exercise and manual therapy. Skiff's therapists help you function at the highest level in order to perform everyday tasks and recreational activities without limitations. Our licensed therapists will perform a complete evaluation to determine what sources may be leading to any problems you may be experiencing. A therapist will work with you to establish goals and a treatment program that many include self-management tips through a home exercise program.

Sports medicine
The sports medicine experts at Skiff provide a first-class program in athletic training/sports physical therapy to our student athletes and our community s adult athletic population. Our program with local high schools includes expert care at sched
uled practices and games, injury assessment, suggestions for rehabilitation, acting as a resource for program development and specific training techniques, and education of high school athletes, coaches and family/medical caregivers.

Industrial medicine
Our staff provides work conditioning, rehabilitation, pre-work screens and functional capacity evaluations for orthopedic conditions and injuries. Our consultants can provide you with on-site job analysis and ergonomic evaluations individually tailored to the needs of your business or industry.

Specialized services for women
Our staff recognizes the special needs of women and provides a multitude of treatments and services designed just for you, including urinary incontinence, pregnancy-related orthopedic conditions and exercise, pelvic pain, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, post-mastectomy/lymphedema protocols and breast prosthetic fittings.

Aquatic therapy
For many patients, land-based therapy may be too difficult. The bouyancy of water eases te pain and allows movement. Also, pool therapy provides a social, fun setting for exercise and offers hope to many.

Neurological rehabilitation
Our caring team will work with you or your loved one to develop a treatment plan to help regain strength, mobility and independence. Skiff s neurological rehabilitation team works with a wide variety of neurological conditions including strokes, head injuries and spinal cord injuries.

Hand rehabilitation
Our staff s expertise in hand rehabilitation includes evaluation and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, amputation, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, tendon repairs, wound care and tendonitis. We can also help you with custom splinting and bracing needs to provide protection and help you with your recovery.

Pediatrics
Our caring pediatric staff offers services to patients from birth to 21 years old. We provide a comprehensive program of developmental, motor and communication skills. We offer age-appropriate treatment programs that are tailored to encourage interaction between you and your child. Our therapists work closely with your family to development a comprehensive home program.

Wound care
Our staff is trained to provide you with skilled care for wounds resulting from burns, pressure, trauma, surgery and various diseases.

Acute care (hospitalization)
If you are hospitalized, our trained experts can provide you with rehabilitation services through a wide range of diagnoses. We consult with you, your family and physician to make recommendations for discharge planning and adaptive equipment that will help you maximize your independence.

Home health services
Skiff wants you to be safe and independent in your home. Our therapists provide in-home assessments and treatments for weakness, balance deficits, walking and fall prevention. They also make recommendations and provide training to improve safety in the bathroom and the rest of your home.

Speech therapy
Skiff's speech-language pathologists evaluate and provide treatment for communication problems to help you regain listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. We also have expertise with pediatric speech therapy services.

Swallowing exams
Skiff can help if you suffer from swallowing difficulties. Our staff performs swallowing evaluations and retrains people who suffer from swallowing difficulties. Both modified barium swallow studies (videofluoroscopic) and inpatient bedside swallowing exams are available.

Audiology
Skiff's trained audiologist tests hearing, evaluate different types of hearing loss, counsel patients and their families, provide rehabilitation and/or hearing aides and, if necessary, refer patients for medical or surgical treatment.

You can benefit from improved sleep, reduced stress, relief from tension headaches and eyestrain, as well as emotional benefits from our therapeutic massage services. Our licensed massage therapists provide Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, prenatal massage, postpartum massage, chair massage and infant massage.
