Insurance information

Hours and contact information

Admissions: Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
Billing office: Monday-
Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
(641) 792-1273 or toll-free: (888) 792-1273

Registration procedures

Please arrive at the business office 15 minutes prior to your appointment and check in for registration at the front desk.

Because we are required to submit a separate bill each time you visit the hospital for services, we ask that you verify your insurance and demographic information and sign an Authorization to Release form at every visit.

Please bring your most recent insurance cards with you, to ensure that we are billing the correct insurance company. Insurance information can change from month to month, so it is important for payment of your claims that we have correct filing information. Skiff Medical Center will file your insurance claims for you, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to pay for the services provided.

It is your responsibility to contact your insurance carrier to determine if preauthorization is necessary. Your benefit book or provider directory should provide this information for you. We recommend you contact your insurance company prior to any procedure to verify whether a preauthorization or referral is necessary.

At the time of registration, you will be asked to sign a general consent form authorizing treatment and release of information to your insurance company. This allows Skiff Medical Center to treat the patient, to file with your insurance carrier and for your carrier make payment directly to Skiff Medical Center. Accurate and complete authorization forms help assure prompt payment of your claims.

Billing statements

Representatives are available to help you with any questions you may have regarding your billing statement 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. To directly reach the representative handling your specific type of insurance, please call:

  • Medicare: (641) 791-4396
  • Blue Cross: (641) 791-4873
  • Other commercial insurance: (641) 791-4395
  • Worker's compensation, motor vehicle coverage, non-insured accounts (641) 791-4393
  • Medicaid (641) 791-4395

Some patients seen at Skiff Medical Center also may receive statements from Newton Clinic and/or Health Care Associates (Dr. Paul Groben). These businesses are separate from Skiff Medical Center and questions regarding billing from these businesses can be directed to them at (641) 792-2112 (Newton Clinic) or (641) 787-0025 (Health Care Associates).

Skiff Medical Center does not routinely send itemized statements. However, many patients have cafeteria plans which require an itemized statement for reimbursement. If you need a copy of an itemized statement, please call (641) 792-1273 to request one.

Medicare

Medicare has two billing parts. Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers a portion of your hospital services. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps to pay for physician fees and outpatient hospital services.

If you are hospitalized, your Part A and Part B will be filed to Medicare for you. These Medicare payments will be sent directly to Skiff Medical Center and you will receive a "Medicare Summary Notice" from Medicare. If you have supplemental or Medigap hospital insurance, a claim will be filed to this secondary insurance for you after Medicare has made payment.

Motor vehicle insurance

If your care is the result of a motor vehicle accident, please provide the following information to the admissions area at the time of your registration: accident claim number, name, mailing address and phone number of the motor vehicle insurance.

Workers' compensation

Skiff Medical Center participates with most state Workers' Compensation programs. These programs require prior authorization for all services. Questions regarding this type of medical compensation may be directed to (641) 791-4393.

Financial assistance

Skiff Medical Center offers financial assistance, via payment plans and the Skiff Cares program, which is available to all patients who qualify based on predetermined criteria. If you are experiencing difficulty paying your bills, please call the billing office at (641) 792-1273 to set up a payment plan or to request a Skiff Cares application. In order to be eligible for Skiff Cares, patients must complete an application and provide all required documentation. Applications may be requested at any time from the admissions desk or from any billing representative.
