Having a baby is a joyous, miraculous experience –- one made even more special by the personalized, one-on-one care you'll receive in the nurturing, family-oriented environment at Skiff Medical Center.
Our beautiful, private birthing suites, renovated in fall 2011, combine all the comforts of home with modern medical technology. You'll experience labor, delivery and your postpartum stay in the same comfortable room. During your labor and delivery, you'll have access to the latest in pain control techniques (including epidural anesthesia) through your physician and our anesthesia department.
The safety of you and your child is our top priority. That is why we use the United Hospital Services Hugs Infant Security System. Designed to prevent infant abductions, the system utilizes a “Hugs” radio transmitter tag contained in a small casing, attached to the baby using a tamper-proof strap. This system features skin-sensing technology, which activates as soon as the band is placed on the baby in the minutes after birth. If this band is cut, removed or tampered with, alarms will sound to alert staff and the unit will go into lockdown status to ensure the safety of the baby.
We shower you with individual attention during your stay, including room service that lets you eat what you want, when you want. By the time you return home with your baby, you'll have very special memories of the way we helped your family grow.
After your baby arrives, you'll enjoy a full complement of services through Skiff Medical Center, including:
- Our “Weigh to Grow” program offers a weekly opportunity to monitor your baby's weight and developmental growth.
- Parents may choose to have a Skiff Medical Center audiologist perform a newborn hearing test on their baby. This simple test can identify possible hearing loss even before the baby leaves the hospital.
- Our lactation consultant is available to help new mothers and babies learn to breastfeed. She can answer questions, solve problems and follow up with visits to the home.
