Skiff Medical Center offers a wide range of nutrition and wellness services to help you lead a healthy lifestyle. From education programs and support groups to fully cooked meals, we offer healthy solutions for those managing disease to those simply looking for a more healthy way to live.
Cafeteria – The Skiff Medical Center cafeteria is open to the community from 6 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on weekdays, with a closing time of 2:30 p.m. on weekends. Continental breakfast is served 6-10:30 a.m., lunch is served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and dinner is served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. After hours, visitors and employees are invited to utilize the first floor snack bar, where meals, snacks and beverages can be purchased from vending machines.
Nutrition newsletter – Our free monthly newsletter, On the Light Side, features healthy recipes, informative articles about nutrition topics, and practical cooking advice.

One-on-one consultation – Skiff Medical Center's Weight Management Program consists of an initial consultation and assessment by a registered, licensed dietitian. Recommendations and guidelines are provided based on your individual needs along with nutrition and exercise information. We can help you develop a plan to manage high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes, and assist you with weight loss. A doctor's referral is not required to participate in the program. This program does not prescribe special food or appetite suppressants. We encourage healthy eating and an active lifestyle to achieve weight loss for life.
Body composition – Skiff Medical Center utilizes the latest technology to measure body composition, which provides information on body fat, fat free mass and total body water. The results are included in a six-page printout that offers information on calorie needs, exercise and nutrition guidelines. Cost of this test is $10. Appointment required. "Recipes for Living" – This cookbook from Skiff Medical Center contains recipes more than 500 tasty, healthy recipes developed, tested and approved by registered, licensed dietitians. The recipes, which are all reduced in calories and fat, have quick and easy preparation with ingredients available at local grocery stores. Reduced-sodium and reduced-carbohydrate recipes are also included. Nutritional analysis includes calorie, fat, carbohydrate and sodium content. Cost of the cookbook is $10. You may also purchase a cookbook in the cafeteria, Cardiac Rehab or from any of the Skiff Medical Center dietitians.
Inpatient care – Every patient admitted to Skiff receives a nutritional assessment from a registered dietitian to determine patients at risk for nutritional deficiencies. A dietitian will also visit patients requiring special diets during the hospital stay and help patients understand dietary restrictions for home.
