General surgeon Dominic Formaro, D.O., is a progressive surgeon with an innovative drive and has a strong interest in providing his patients with the best possible care. He practices the full range of general surgery: laparoscopic, open, breast, colorectal, oncologic, trauma, acute care surgery and critical care. He is trained in SILS, single-incision laparoscopic surgery, which uses a single access point while still utilizing multiple surgical instruments. In cases of abdominal surgery, the access point is the belly button and because of the belly button’s structure, it means any scar is virtually undetectable. This leading-edge procedure used for specific surgeries provides great benefits to patients who qualify.
In addition, Dr. Formaro has received special training in breast surgery at the Katzman Breast Center in Des Moines. His practice includes traditional and breast conserving techniques and sentinel lymph node mapping. He also received training in breast ultrasound and interventional techniques.
Dr. Formaro attended medical school at Des Moines University – College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines. Dr. Formaro is certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery. Dr. Formaro joined Skiff in July 2010.
